Born in Gijon, Spain in 1929, German Robles made the transatlantic journey to Mexico with his mother when he was seventeen. In 1952 he appeared in his first theatrical play, EL MARTIR DEL CALVARIO, and five years later he starred in his first film, the important EL VAMPIRO/THE VAMPIRE, under the direction of Fernando Mendez. Playing the part of the vampire, Count Karol de Lavud, Robles handled his role with sophistication and grace. EL VAMPIRO/THE VAMPIRE was shown in many countries, and is rumored to have influenced Christopher Lee's portrayal as a suave Count Dracula in Hammer's HORROR OF DRACULA. Robles followed this film with a sequel, EL AUTUAD DE VAMPIRO, and other horror genre roles in such films as THE LIVING HEAD and THE BRAINIAC. He also played a vampire count in a series of four serial-like NOSTRADAMUS films, which are unheralded and impressive contributions in the fantastic genre. Through the years he has continued acting in the horror and fantastique genres, as well as in dramas, both in film and on television, particularly lately in telenovelas. German Robles has also appeared in theatre (mostly recently in the long-running LA DAMA DE NEGRO/THE WOMAN IN BLACK) and his voice graces a Spanish reading of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES. |

German Robles recently celebrated a 50 year acting and directing career in Mexico with an homage in EL INSTITUTO MICHOACANO DE CULTURA. Robles debuted on February 1, 1952 in the Michoacano's Teatro Ocampo. |
